The School

Red Rock Central Public Schools, located in southwestern Minnesota, consolidated from four original school districts, Sanborn, est. 1871, Lamberton, est. 1875, Storden, est. 1879, and Jeffers Public Schools est. 1902.  In 1971 Storden and Jeffers merged and in 1987 Sanborn and Lamberton paired.  1997 saw the consolidation of Storden-Jeffers and Sanborn-Lamberton, creating the present-day Red Rock Central School District.
Red Rock Central has been recipient of several awards.  Since 2008, RRC has annually been selected as one of the nation’s “Best High Schools” by US News and World Report, receiving recognition in both the bronze and silver categories.  The elementary school has been designated as a “Minnesota Reward School” by the Minnesota Department of Education for 2016.  In 2005 we received a “Recognition for Excellence in Music Education” award as one of the “Best 100 Communities for Music Education in America” recognizing outstanding music programs and community support from a consortium of nine entities including MENC.
Two unique experiences Red Rock Central is enriched by and offers to our immediate communities and beyond are the Lamberton Jazz Festival and our ISP, RRCNet.  The Lamberton Jazz Festival began in 1975 while the late Martin H. Meidl was the band director for Lamberton High School.  The festival, held on the third Tuesday in March, provides a non-competitive day of jazz education with nationally known clinicians including Steve Houghton, Howie Smith, Dean Sorenson, the US Air Force Noteables and the United States Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors.  Upon his retirement from teaching, Mr. Meidl went on to open The Music Mart, Inc. in Lamberton, which also has locations in Mankato and Faribault, Minnesota.

RRCNET

RRCNet, Red Rock Central’s Internet Service Provider, began as a school-to-work program in 1996.  Students employed by RRCNet develop valuable skills that allow them to fill positions in fields of information technology including area phone companies, as technology coordinators in area school districts and farmer’s cooperatives and even some Fortune 500 companies. Throughout the years, RRCNet has grown to provide Internet services to much of the Red Rock Central school district and surrounding communities.
